We enjoyed several hours at Parliament on Thursday, and we were blessed to sit in on both Houses: Commons was debating Afghanistan while the Lords were mainly sleeping and chatting about the National Forests of Britain.
As you know, the House of Lords includes the 26 most senior bishops of the COE. There were only four attending on Thursday, and two of them were sleeping! Yep, they were out, and I can't say that I blame them - Lord Somebody was rambling on and on ad nauseum.
I understand that the bishops, Lords Spiritual as they're called, have no real legislative power. They are there mainly to open each session with prayers and a pontifical blessing and to push laws through that benefit the Church of England. They are, however, asked to speak on national and international matters. I'm told the Archbishop of Canterbury, Rowan Williams, loves to go over to the House and chat awhile.
I wish I could say that because of their presence Secular Humanism in Britain doesn't stand a chance - but as you all know this is not the case. Post-modernity in the EU, particularly in Britain, is very strong, being much more cancerous than in the USA. One could point out they only comprise 4% of the House of Lords, thus they lack the power to change anything. It is true; they've been losing Parliamentary power for at least five hundred years. Who knows what the future holds for Great Britain and the Anglican Communion. Of course, God does, and it is in Him whom we must place our trust.
We miss you and can't wait to see you Saturday...or Sunday morning!
