A Tribute to Augustus Welby Northmore Pugin, Architect & Theorist (1812-1852)
When you think Pugin, think of Parliament (plus, the alliteration has a little ring to it). I mean, think of this style of architecture: Gothic Revival. A devout Roman after having experiencing a powerful conversion to the Faith, he also designed this magnificent High Altar at Church of the Immaculate Conception in Mayfair. At the time of its construction this parish was a bold statement not only for Gothic Revival, but also for Roman Catholicism in England. Of course, before Vatican II, this Altar would have even been better. But anyway, check it out. Great style and lines. Too bad he only lived to be 40, having been poisoned by a mercury overdose.
