Upon truly entering the narthex of St. Paul's Cathedral today, I found this to be a lovely reminder of what I was doing (sans my botched flash of course). This visual reminder, you see, is a great way to carve out the non-homogenious nature of sacred space, which is something our secular culture so desperately needs.
