This is one space through which you didn't want to pass. Consider some of the many people who entered the Tower via the Thames river through this very gate: some Saints, some monarchs, and even some thieves. I know for a fact that Saint Thomas More, Anne Boleyn, Queen Catherine Howard, and the Virgin Queen, Elizabeth, entered here. Most people, the vast majority in fact, who entered the Tower here ended up never leaving again.
