British Cultural Hegemony: The Royal Observatory

Just leave it the British in the nineteenth century to decide that longitude should be calculated, along with time, from Greenwich. So now we have GMT (Greenwich Mean Time) and the Prime Meridian (zero degrees longitude) in one little spot. I'm most interested, however, in the fact that Sir Christopher Wren, the architect for the present St. Paul's Cathedral, designed most of it. So consider how this very government structure appears, and then tomorrow you should be able to see some traces of his work at his seminal statement, St. Paul's. Why would he want them both to share some of the same characteristics?
