The Word of the Lord Will Stand Forever.....

Indeed it will, and my eyes saw today the oldest extant complete copy of the Greek New Testament, Codex Sinaiticus (330 AD), at the British Library in London. Being in its presence was tres cool. There's been quite a lot written about the history of the book; it was discovered while monks at St. Catherine's Monastery were cleaning and burning old and "useless" papers to keep warm! Afterwards, the Codex has a somewhat controversial history. Eventually it was presented as a gift to one of the last Tsars of Russia, Alexander II. I think a movie is being produced about how the book ended up in the British Library, but I don't know how to find out.
Situated right beside the Codex is an interesting piece of history: the Magna Carta.

Given our course topic, I found it incredibly fascinating that a government would raise the money to purchase such an explicitly Christian artifact. This is that unique role of Church and a powerful State in Britain at play. And I must tell my Roman friends, Sinaiticus is far superior to Codex Vaticanus.
